What is the BET Award?
The BET Award is a valuable, certified programme of transferable skills and practical learning opportunities for students aged 14-19.
Designed to enhance students' skills for enterprise and employability, students complete the award either alongside, or in some cases as part of, their existing school/college curriculum.
Employability skills that are developed through the programme
The BET Award is focussed on the development of the generic skills and qualities required to do almost any job. They include:
• Communication– reading, writing, speaking and listening
• IT and computer skills
• Problem solving
• Business awareness
• Customer care
The BET Award has four elements:
• a self-assessed skills questionnaire
• work experience
• volunteering experience
• workshops and masterclasses
Students who complete all the elements are awarded a certificate of achievement.
Are you interested in achieving the BET Award?
You need to attend a school or college within BET. Whether you are moving on from school or college to higher education, apprenticeship or employment you will be entering a competitive market. The Award will complement your academic studies and help you stand out from the crowd. Employers look for employees who demonstrate integrity, reliability, initiative and determination and the BET Award helps you to provide evidence of these skills.
In addition, you will be able to develop your communication and organisational skills, take on leadership roles and develop self-awareness of your strengths and weaknesses.
Please contact your school/college to ask how to register.
Are you an employer?
Can you help us improve the employability of young people in Bath and the surrounding area?
We are looking for local employers to run master classes and workshops and to offer work experience. We will provide support for planning and delivery and just need your expertise. If you or your company can provide expert knowledge on the key employability skills, we would love to hear from you.
Do you need volunteers?
Volunteering is a great way for young people to develop their skills and is an important element of the BET Award. We are looking for volunteering opportunities in the local community to offer to students. Please contact us to discuss any opportunities you may be able to offer.
